NYAMUKA AND LIVINGSTONE CHAMBER SIGN AGREEMENT TO SUPPORT ASPIRING ENTREPRENEURS

Agencies support entrepreneurs to rise to the business challenge

LIVINGSTONE, ZAMBIA – Tuesday 21 February 2017 –the Nyamuka Zambia business plan competition is delighted to announce the signing of an agreement to establish a new partnership with the Livingstone Chamber of Commerce and Industry. By working closely together, the Livingstone Chamber and Nyamuka Zambia aim to encourage even more entrepreneurs to turn their business dreams into reality as well as promoting and facilitating investment, trade and competitiveness of businesses in Zambia.

The two organisations are entering this formal partnership in order to establish an application centre for the 2017 season of the Nyamuka Zambia business plan competition. The Chamber’s offices in central Livingstone will be hosting an application centre for the 3rd season of Nyamuka Zambia which will start accepting applications on 7 March 2017 and the last day for submission is 26 April at 17:00.

The agreement to formalise this arrangement was signed by the Manager of the Nyamuka Zambia business plan competition, Ms Namaya Mbikusita-Lewanika, and Ms Namakau Sianga, President of the Livingstone Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

“We are delighted to be joining hands with the Livingstone Chamber of Commerce and Industry, an agreement that allows us to bring Nyamuka Zambia to the heart of Southern Province for the first time so that we can promote and support aspiring entrepreneurs from Livingstone and beyond”, commented Ms Mbikusita-Lewanika.

“The Chamber is playing an important role in the development of the private sector in Southern Province and so having an application centre within its offices is the perfect way for us to join forces to encourage people with great business ideas to take the next step in turning their dreams into business reality”, she added.

Speaking on behalf of the Livingstone Chamber, Ms Sianga pointed out the critical role that entrepreneurs and SMEs are playing in the diversification of the Zambian economy. “We are delighted to be welcoming the Nyamuka Zambia team to Livingstone. Hosting a Nyamuka Zambia application advice centre and working with the business plan competition throughout the season will allow the Chamber to offer practical and valuable assistance to our local entrepreneurs and demonstrate our commitment to supporting the ongoing growth and development of local economy in the South”, she stated.

During the application period, Nyamuka Zambia will be hosting free-of-charge application advice clinics and business essentials workshops for everyone interested in developing their own businesses. These sessions will be arranged through the Nyamuka Zambia application centre hosted by the Livingstone Chamber and will take place in a local venue.

In 2016 Nyamuka Zambia received 658 applications for the competition, over 30% from women. The 20 finalists all walked away with a share in a prize fund of more than K2,000,000, with the top prize winner, Musanshi Chiluba, receiving K250,000 to invest in her button mushroom business.
