Nyamuka Zambia Reveals the 60 Semi-Finalists for the 2017 Business Plan Competition

Barclays Business Banking Director Meets & Inspires Budding Entrepreneurs & Business Owners at Graduation Ceremony

Today the Nyamuka Zambia Business Plan Competition revealed the 60 semi-finalists of the 2017 season of the competition at a ceremony held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Lusaka.
The 2017 season of the business plan competition kicked off in March and since close to 600 candidates have applied, all hoping to win one of the prizes ranging from K250,000 – K75,000. The 60 semi-finalists, judged to have strongest business ideas, were selected by independent panels of skilled and experienced business people.
Barclays Zambia Business Banking Director, Regina Mulenga and Private Enterprise Program (PEP) Zambia Team Leader, Mr. James Blewett gave speeches to congratulate & provide some words of motivation to the shortlisted candidates as they go forward to the next stage of the competition.
During his opening remarks Mr. Blewett welcomed and congratulated the candidates, saying that they were all taking the first step of taking their business idea to the next level through the support and mentorship that the Nyamuka Zambia Business Plan Competition will provide to them.
Encouraging the candidates Mrs. Mulenga said, “You are all contributing to the economic diversification of Zambia and a bankable business plan is the first step in your journey to entrepreneurial success. Barclays Bank will continue to support the formation and development of local business that make a positive contribution to economic growth and employment creation. You are not alone, you have a dedicated business partner in us and Nyamuka Zambia.”
After being welcomed, the 60 semi-finalists took a picture with the Barclays and Nyamuka teams before going into an informational session on the next steps in their Nyamuka journey.
The semi-finalists will now be inducted into the next phase of the Nyamuka Zambia 2017 Business Plan Competition. In this stage of the competition candidates will receive intensive one-to-one business support and will be mentored by expert business advisors in order to develop their ideas and produce a detailed business plan.
